Submitting survey one way to have your voice heard

The annual survey issued by state Sen. Jerry Cooper is an excellent way to let lawmakers know your thoughts on key issues facing this state.

It’s become even more of a factor now that Cooper has incorporated the help of state Reps. Charlie Curtiss and Judd Matheny for this year’s questionnaire. That means when Warren County residents complete the survey and send it in, it will reach the hands of every person who is representing us on Capitol Hill.

For anyone who might have missed the survey, it was published in Friday’s edition of the Standard. If you missed Friday’s paper, we still have several copies here at the office, or you can fill out the 27-question survey on the Internet and save yourself postage.

The online address is www.legislature.state.tn.us. From there, click on “Senate” on the left-hand side of the home page. Then click on “Members” and scroll down to “Cooper, Jerry W.” and click on his name. Then click on “2004 Online Survey.”

It’s all too easy to sit back and complain about how state government is operated. It can make for great conversation.

But all it takes is a few minutes and just a small amount of effort and you can let legislators know how you feel about important topics. This includes TennCare reform, educational scholarships, tighter meth laws, handgun carry permits, open alcoholic containers in vehicles, and identity theft measures.

Cooper has traditionally received around 300 survey responses a year and says he takes those surveys into account when voting on legislation. If you care about how Tennessee is run, it only makes sense to fill out a survey and sent it in.
