Broncos tie, still unbeaten: Boyd at 3-0-1 after Friday’s 2-2 deadlock

Mt. Juliet struck first when its outside striker slipped a shot past Boyd’s goalie. Mt. Juliet stayed on the offensive attack for much of the first half until the Broncos took advantage of a three-on-two breakaway. With 20 minutes left in the half, Mathew Hancock fired a shot low and to the right to tie the game at 1-1.
Boyd’s Clint Patterson kept Mt. Juliet’s defense in check as he had five shots at goal in the first half. Patterson found the back of the net with 10 minutes left to play to give Boyd a 2-1 lead.
Mt. Juliet pushed the ball on offense for the next eight minutes and with five minutes showing on the clock fired a shot at Boyd’s goalie Jay Medley, who dove to his right to keep the Bronco’s lead at 2-1 by halftime.
In the second half Boyd stayed on the offensive attack. Patterson found an open spot in the Mt. Juliet defense and fired, just missing his second goal of the day. With 30 minutes left to play Mt. Juliet had an indirect kick from 15 yards out, but the Broncos’ defense held as they kept their one goal lead.
Boyd kept things on the offensive side of the field, keeping pressure on the Mt. Juliet defenders. Time was running out on Mt. Juliet as they switched to an offensive mode.
With two minutes left in the game Mt. Juliet tied the game at 2-2 slipping a shot just past Medley as he dove to his left. Time ran out as Boyd started an offensive run, but the Broncos’ undefeated streak remains as their record moved to 3-0-1.
Medley had 10 saves on the day, while the Broncos took 17 shots on goal.
