Waymon (Clint) Hale, Donald Holt Lawson, Rev. James D. Waddell, Eliza Jane Odineal, Edith L. Bates, Francis Katie Cantrell, Hoyte M. Bell

Waymon (Clint) Hale, 26
McMinnville resident and Warren County native Waymon Clinton Hale, 26, died unexpectedly May 18 at his home.

A construction foreman with Waymon H. Hale Construction and a member of Northside Baptist Church, he was the son of Waymon and Melba Jean Hale of McMinnville; and is also survived by brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Karissa Hale of McMinnville; maternal grandmother, Odell McCord of McMinnville; niece, Emilee Grace Hale of McMinnville; aunts, Sandra Cobb of Jackson and Georgia Jones of McMinnville; and uncles, Jewell and Glen Hale, both of McMinnville, Sam Hale of Atlanta, Ga., and Melvin Hale of Florida.

Services were held Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Jackie Matheny and Dale Randolph officiating. Burial followed at Gardens of Memory.

Donald Holt Lawson, 62
Spencer resident and Roanoke, Va., native Donald Holt Lawson, 62, died unexpectedly May 20 at his home.

A welder with K&W Steel Company and a member of Smartt Baptist Church, he was the son of James and Altie Lawson; and was preceded in death by son, Donald Howard Tokiper.

He is survived by daughters, Debbie, Dawn, Ruth and Donna and Donna Mooneyham and Kim Buckner, both of Rock Island; son, Ricky Lawson of Johnson City; several grandchildren; brothers, Russell Lawson of Mentor, Ohio, Troy Lawson of Virginia and Elliott Lawson of Ohio; sisters, Helen of Ohio, Lethie and Maggie of Virginia; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at High’s Chapel with Carson Rust officiating. Burial will follow at Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, 8 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday at High’s.

Rev. James D. Waddell, 51
Reverend James D. Waddell, 51, passed away May 20 at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Waddell; daughters, Misty and Beth Waddell of Murfreesboro and Brandy Waddell of McMinnville; his father, Walter W. Waddell of Tusculum. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae Waddell. He is also survived by brother, John R. Waddell of Bean Station; sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Gerald Sams, Linda and Ollie Erwin, all of Arden, N.C.; mother-in-law, Nita Dunbar of Chuckey; brother-in-law and his wife, Lee and Rachel Dunbar of Jonesborough; aunts, Sara Speer, Frances Peltier and Della Kate Waddell; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rev. Waddell served many churches in the area. He began his ministry as a Methodist minister and later joined Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and Asbury Seminary in Willmore, Ky. At the time of his death, he was the pastor of Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McMinnville.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Chapel in Greeneville with Rev. A.C. Cobble and Don Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Herman Methodist Church Cemetery in Greene County. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home, 1125 Tusculum Boulevard in Greeneville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church in McMinnville.

Eliza Jane Odineal, 82
McMinnville resident and Warren County native Eliza Jane Odineal, 82, died May 20 at her home after a lingering illness.

A homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of Verhandan and Delinia Hendrix Alley; and was preceded in death by sons, George Ray Odineal and Bybee Clifford Odineal; sisters, Mattie Penninton, Maude Whitlock and Mary Alley; and brothers, Leve, Fred, Bybee and John Alley.

She is survived by her husband, George Berto Odineal; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Ron Martin, Barbara and David Bouldin, all of McMinnville; daughters-in-law, DeAnna Odineal and Carolyn Odineal, both of McMinnville; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at High’s Chapel with Thomas Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today and will be held Thursday until time of service at High’s.

Edith L. Bates, 87
Willoughby, Ohio resident and Warren County native Edith L. Bates, 87, died May 13 in Willoughby after an extended illness.

Retired from teaching after 55 years and a member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of Ben and Pearl Bates; and was preceded in death by brothers, Benjamin M. Bates Jr. and Willie R. Bates in 1998.

She is survived by sisters, Henrietta B. Curtis and Mary E. Ivy, both of Ohio; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul W. and Vernola Bates of Springfield, Ohio, Joseph B. Bates of Chicago, Ill., Jewel T. and Dorothy Bates of Dayton, Ohio, and James L. and Mayrene Bates of Fairfield, Calif.; sister-in-law, Vera Bates of Houston, Texas; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews and friends.

Services were held Tuesday at High’s Chapel with Phillip Smith Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Gardens of Memory.

Francis Katie Cantrell, 77
Morrison resident and DeKalb County native Francis Katie Cantrell, 77, died May 20 at her home after an extended illness.

A retired machine operator with Formfit Rogers and a member of Morrison Church of Christ, she was the daughter of Warren F. and Martha Bell Steele Herrin; and was preceded in death by her husband, Peyton Cantrell.

She is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie Herrin, Frank and Athelia Herrin, James and Wavie Herrin, O.P. and Dorothy Herrin, Don and Josephine Herrin, David and Josephine Herrin, Ned Herrin, Ben and Pearl Herrin, Calvin and Mildred Herrin, all of Warren County; sisters and brothers-in-law, Armanda and Charlie Burgess, Linda and Wade Farley, and Clara Nell Tate, all of Warren County; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at High’s Chapel with Lynwood Mathis and Ken Willis officiating. Burial followed at Bascom Cemetery.

Hoyte M. Bell, 87
Springfield resident and Morrison native Hoyte M. Bell, 87, died May 17.

The co-owner of WDBL Radio from 1950-70 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Lions Club, American Legion and Main Street Church of Christ where he served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta Locke Bell; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Patricia Bell of Atlanta, Ga.; granddaughter and her husband, Kelli and Curtis Ritter of Atlanta; sister, Betty Bell Witty of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Mrs. Walter Duke of McMinnville; and brother-in-law, Jack Locke of McMinnville. She was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.

Services were held Monday at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield. Burial with military honors followed at Robertson County Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Main Street Church of Christ youth group, 318 North Main Street, Springfield, Tenn. 37172 or the charity of your choice.
