Irving College festival earns approximately $12,000

More playground and technology equipment will be visible at Irving College Elementary School after proceeds estimated at $12,000 are added to the PTO coffers. The monies had been earmarked earlier for the equipment as the result of a successful spring festival.

Earlier in the week, students had participated in a Tiger Pride walk-a-thon raising $3,349. Young walkers collecting $50 or more received T-shirts.

In the week-long Kutest Kid Contest monetary votes were cast for the cutest baby pictures. Prize winners were Abbie McGowan and Aaron Barnes, kindergarten through third grade; Jamie Holder and Tyler Fults, fourth through eighth grade.

A musical/video program, “Salute to Local Heroes,” recognizing firefighters, law enforcement, ambulance and other emergency technicians was presented by students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Plaques were awarded to the various representatives.

Winners of the student talent show were Zach Rubley, natural talent category; Shea Butcher, Dakota McGowan and Deborah Pickel, dance category; Justin Woodlee, Ricky Comfort, Zackary Flanagan and Austin Panter, lip sync category.

As a new addition to the fund-raiser with classrooms furnishing gift displays for auction. Various display themes being featured were gardening, games, University of Tennessee memorabilia, beach toys, pool toys, and a wagon filled with toys.

A barbecue dinner was served in the cafeteria. Game booths under way throughout the building included Wheel of Fortune, toilet tissue toss, Plinko, miniature golf, dart throw, pick up ducks, ring toss and more.
