Three receive heavy meth prison sentences
Being caught with three meth labs in under a year has landed a local man in federal prison for six and a half years with his illegal enterprise also taking two friends with him to prison for conspiracy.
Donovan Wood, 41, entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 78 months in prison recently in U.S. District Court in Chattanooga. Joining him in the federal lockup are co-conspirators Christian Kight who also received 78 months for conspiracy, and Janet Osborne who received 37 months for conspiracy. Federal sentences do not provide time off for parole, meaning they will be required to serve almost all of their prescribed terms.
The sentences come following a web of methamphetamine labs, two of which were discovered in the Chambers Street house shared by Woods and Osborne. The labs were both discovered in 2003.
The first lab, found in March, involved an elaborate set-up complete with mail-order glassware. The second, less elaborate lab, was partially hidden by Woods who locked himself in a bathroom with it when lawmen made their way into his house.
Woods’ third strike came when officers took him into custody in 2004 on the meth conspiracy charges. On that occasion, officers reported finding a meth lab in the truck he was driving.
The final lab was the last time he tasted freedom as the court set a high bond in light of his violation of his prior two bond conditions and the case was turned over to federal prosecutors.
In entering their pleas before the court, the three defendants admitted they had conspired to operate the local meth network.
