Five seniors graduate from Boyd Christian

“It’s always been a small class in numbers,” said Boyd valedictorian Tabitha King, who spent her high school years at the private school in Westwood. “There were a few more students in the class a while back but now we ended up with five, and that’s OK.”
Why the senior class, which is the seventh to graduate from Boyd, ended up being so small is unknown. Classes generally have been about 15 to 17 in size in recent years, with around 17 expected for the 2006 commencement.
Bran Merritt, who was the only member of the Fab Five to have spent his entire school career at Boyd from first grade to graduation, said he enjoyed his time at the private school.
“I’ve had a lot of good friends here,” Merritt said.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Leslee Beck transferred to Boyd for her senior year after spending much of her educational career in public schools.
“It’s quite a bit different, coming here, especially given the small size of our senior class,” Beck said, noting she intends to attend Motlow in the fall.
Christina Burch, also a recent transfer, said she enjoyed the experience of the more intimate setting. She is preparing to serve her country in the Air Force.
King summed up the feeling of her classmates in saying being part of such a small class is something special and something very few get to be a part of during their school years.
“I think being part of a small class has brought us all closer together,” King said. “You know everyone in your grade pretty well.”
