Broncos honored: Awards doled out at Boyd sports banquet
Friday night F.C. Boyd Christian school held its annual spring sports banquet to honor all of the Broncos high school and middle school athletes.
The event was kicked off with dinner and remarks by athletic director Jeanne Hagar, Boyd President C.N. Womack and principal Eva Ferrell.
“We are so proud of each one of these athletes,” said Hagar, who served as master of ceremonies.
“It’s an honor to take this night and recognize all of their hard work and accomplishments over the past year.”
Handing out awards to their players were Dabe Banerjee for the middle school soccer program, Twanelle Majors for cheerleading, Steve Stubblefield for Jr. High boys basketball, Melvin Childers for high school baseball and golf, Gina Cleek boy’s and girl’s high school soccer, Michelle Chisham for softball , Lori Panter boys high school basketball and Hagar for girls high school and Jr. High basketball.
In addition to individual team awards several players were recognized for making the All-District 8-A team in soccer. For the boys high school team, Dustin Curtis made first team all-district with Matthew Hancock and Brooks Palmer receiving second team honors. For the girls team, Courtney Hard made first team all-district with Jennifer Laxton and Emily Newby making the second team.
The boys Jr. high basketball program gave awards to Cole Stubblefield for Best All-Round player. Lucas Hartman received the Rebounding award, Offensive player Austin Young, Defensive player Dylan Fernandez, Coaches award Charlie Hines and Most Improved Zack Arnold.
For the girls Offensive player went to Leah Walker, Defensive went to Sam Porter, Assit/Playmaker Jessica Hagar, Rebounding Jordan Cleek, Most Improved Monica Patel and Team Spirit award went to Hannah Powell.
For the middle school soccer team, Logan Walker received the Offensive player, David Cross Defensive player, Hustle Award went to Kaleb Tilton, Most Improved Cole Stubblefield and Sportmanship went to Spencer Warren and Dylan Fernandez.
Junior High cheerleading awards went to Breauna Mathis for Most Improved, Kaylyn Baker Spirit , Monica Hillis Best All-Round, Victoria Woods Leadership and Ashlyn Cooper Technique award.
For the boys high school basketball team, Offensive payer went to Dillon Childers, Defensive player James Dunlap, Rebounding Tyler Hillis, Assists award Matthew Hancock, Leadership Dustin Curtis and Most Improved Adam White.
For the boys soccer team Dustin Curtis received the Best Defensive player, Brooks Palmer Offensive and the MVP went to Hancock.
The high school baseball team gave Ryan Hill the Offensive player award, Adam White and Brooks Palmer Best Defensive, Most Improved Brently Panter and Best All-Round Dillon Childers.
For the girls high school basketball team Tabitha King received the Leadership award, Alex Porter Defensive player, Emily Newby Rebounding, Assists Jennifer Laxton, Coaches Award Lydia Powell and Team Spirit Amanda Prater.
For the high school softball team, Leah Walker took home Rookie of the Year, Most Improved went to Ashlei Bain, Defensive award Kris Surles and Most Versatile Courtney Hard.
